Alzheimer's Association
The Alzheimer's Association is the leading voluntary health organization in Alzheimer's and dementia care, support, and research. As a volunteer, you can help educate and raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease.
Andresen Nature Center
Volunteers can complete service hours for your club or organization or simply give yourself fulfilling time outdoors to help take care of the natural habitat along the Mississippi River.
PADS - Public Action to Deliver Shelter
PADS is an emergency shelter for the homeless and an entry point for other outreach programs. The shelter is primarily run by volunteers from the community.
Sauk Valley Food Bank - Whiteside County
This volunteer station does not provide food directly to those in need, but to pantries and other agencies. Any 501(c)3 group that gives away food can buy from the food bank, which pays 7 cents per pound for the food and sells it to the groups for 18 cents per pound. Area gardeners and businesses – such as Selmi’s Greenhouse and Farm Market in Rock Falls, Mitchell Melons in Tampico, and Blue Freedom Farm Market Inc. in Sterling – also donate to the food bank.
The Salvation Army - Whiteside County
Volunteers are valuable assets in The Salvation Army's efforts to meet the changing needs of our world. Through the skills and experience, they bring to The Army, volunteers make significant contributions to society by positively impacting the lives of those they assist. The Salvation Army volunteers change lives, uplift families, and support communities throughout our nation every day.
United Way of Whiteside County - Whiteside County
UW of Whiteside County is a locally-based, volunteer-driven nonprofit organization that was established in 1945 when the Sterling Chamber of Commerce community leaders came together to explore the benefits of a community wide fundraising campaign to be called the Community Chest. Seven decades later, United Way of Whiteside County continues to build stronger communities through its annual community wide campaign as well as developing partnerships and initiatives which support local and human service programs.
The Vibe
The Vibe is an after-school for Challand Middle School students that meets weekly on Thursdays after school. Adult volunteers are background checked and help with snacks, games, and homeworki.
Whiteside County Senior Center - Whiteside County
This volunteer station is a place with programs and activities geared toward seniors, but also a place for the whole community. Here you can enjoy a meal with friends, play Bingo, Wii, pool or cards, line dance, exercise, crochet or knit and much more! The Mission of the Whiteside County Senior Center is to provide services and programs for senior citizens throughout Whiteside County, that promote their well-being, encourage their involvement in community life, and support their independence.
Whiteside County Soil and Water Conservation District - Whiteside County
The Function of the Conservation District is to take available technical, financial, and educational resources, whatever their source, and focus or coordinate them so that they meet the needs of the local land user for conservation of soil, water and related resources.
